I'm Leyla Kaya Vardan, a Turkish language and literature teacher with more than 30 years' experience. I taught in Turkey from 1989, at a Ministry of National Education school and at Üsküdar Private American High School, Şişli Terakki High School and Eyüboğlu Education Institutions, and I have tutored privately since 1990. I've been teaching online since 2020. My approach is simple: understand where a student is, set clear goals, and build confidence through regular practice. Lessons take place in a warm, relaxed setting where students take an active part, with homework to review and practise what we've covered and periodic tests to check progress. I use my own teaching programme and materials, developed over three decades, alongside the student's own textbooks. I also teach Turkish to the staff of London restaurants and businesses, in small groups on site. My aim is for every student to become a confident, independent learner.
